Happy Chinese Ularlar Year!

Yippee! Three more days to Chinese New Year! Extremely excited, just thinking about all the food (bak kwa, cookies, bak kwa) and the much needed precious time to spend with loved ones. It's the one time where all family members, relatives and friends, be it from near or far gather together to celebrate the union of all forms. Also, it is the perfect excuse to gobble down all the food you can find at home or when you are making house visits as no one will be bothered counting the calories =P

Chinese New Year is an interesting festival as it is all about traditions hence we decided to share some fascinating trivias about the Spring Festival so that all of us can join in the celebration, regardless of races and religions =)

1. There are 12 days of Christmas where you can party to the max but guess what, the traditional Chinese New Year celebration lasts a total of 15 days! That's an extra 3 days for you to eat and be merry.

2. Chinese families believe that giving your a house a thorough cleansing process will help to sweep away all the bad luck accumulated from the previous year, thus the term "spring cleaning" evolved. Spring cleaning is usually done at least few weeks before Chinese New Year and a clean house will ensure good fortune in the new year to come. However, on the first day of Chinese New Year, brooms are shoved aside so as not to sweep away the incoming good fortune.

3. Some food consumed during CNY has their own significance. For instance, it is believed that the more you consume dumplings, the wealthier you would become as they are synonymous with prosperity. And noodles symbolises longevity. You are not supposed to cut the noodles and it is only right to consume them in the length that they come in order to prevent the risk of shortening your life.

4. Niángāo, also, called the Chinese New Year's cake is supposed to be made in silence, as a slip of tongue might bring wrath to your household. This is because the delicacy is customarily offered to the Kitchen God before his return to Heaven to present his report on each household to the Jade Emperor. Therefore, you'll definitely want to be put in the good books of the God.

5. The number 8 has long been regarded by the Chinese as an auspicious number hence the sweet food items are usually served in a tray consisting of 8 portions. In addition to being a lucky number, it also signifies unity and togetherness.

1. This contest is being run by M3Shoppe (Asia) Sdn. Bhd., Unit 707, Block A, Pusat Dagangan Phileo   

    Damansara 2, Jalan 16/11, 46350 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

2. This contest is only open to Malaysian citizens and M3Shoppe.com Malaysian fans above the age of 18. 

    Any correspondence received from overseas personnel will not be entertained.

3. The prize(s) that is/are awarded to the eligible winner(s) is/are not transferable, redeemable for cash or 

    exchangeable for any other prizes. Winner or winners must ensure that they are available on the date 

    specified. If a winner fails to pick up a dated prize in time to redeem the benefit, the winner forfeits the 

    prize and no other prize will be awarded in its place. If a winner cannot be contacted or is disqualified for 

    any reason, the Company reserves the right to determine an alternate winner or not to award that 

    winner’s prize, in its sole discretion.

4. If the contest includes the use of an internet tool and the internet  process fails to operate properly or 

    appears to be tampered with or tainted with errors, fraud or unfair practices, the Company reserves the 

    right to use other means to determine the winner(s), i.e. random selection or appointing a panel of judges. 

    All decisions of the judges are final.

5. By participating in the Contest, each participant and winner waives any and all claims of liability against  

    the Company, its employees and agents, the Contest’s sponsors and their respective employees and 

    agents, for any personal injury or loss which may occur from the conduct of, or participation in, the 

    Contest, or from the use of any prize.

6. By participating in the Contest, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of Company personnel. 

    Any person who violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Contest, or obtain winner 

    status using fraudulent means will be disqualified. Unsportsmanlike, disruptive, annoying, harassing or 

    threatening behavior is prohibited. The Company will interpret these rules and resolve any disputes, 

    conflicting claims or ambiguities concerning the rules or the Contest and the Company’s decisions 

    concerning such disputes shall be final. If the conduct or outcome of the Contest is affected by human 

    error, any mechanical malfunctions or failures of any kind, intentional interference or any event beyond the 

    control of the Company, the Company reserves the right to terminate this Contest, or make such other 

    decisions regarding the outcome as the Company deems appropriate. All decisions will be made by the 

    Company and are final. The Company may waive any of these rules in its sole discretion. Any attempt by 

    an entrant or any other individual to deliberately circumvent, disrupt, damage or undermine the legitimate 

    operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws. Should such an attempt be made, the 

    Company reserve the right to seek civil and/or criminal prosecution and/or damages from any such  

     person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Winners must use their true, legal name (as it appears on 

     their government issued IC) when participating in contests or claiming prizes and may not win any contest 

     under an assumed name. Winner will be disqualified and prize(s) forfeited if they are found participating 

     under an assumed name or alias.

7. The conduct of the Contest is governed by the the laws of Malaysia, which take precedence over any 

     rule to the contrary herein.

8. M3Shoppe (Asia) Sdn. Bhd. reserves the rights to replace prize(s) with item(s) of similar  value in case of 

    stock unavailability.   

 
9. Two winners will be selected on the 2nd of April 2013 (Tuesday), with one winner entitling to only  

    one prize. Organisers are to select the prize each winner will be walking away with.

10. Selected winners will be contacted via email and announcements will be made via M3Shoppe.com's fan 

      page. If winners do not reply to their messages within 7 days, M3Shoppe (Asia) Sdn. Bhd. reserves the 

      right to void the prize and a new winner will be selected.
